To interrupt the details of our trip West...Miss Molly's Kettle Korn  worked at a wonderful little event at Dudley Farm State Historic Park.  Three generations of Dudley's lived and worked the farm before the last Dudley to live there (Miss Myrtle) donated a large part of the farm to the State of Florida.  It is still a working farm.  Cracker cattle, mules, chickens, turkey, lots of original buildings.  Just a really great place to spend a day with the family.

Hard Times in 1868 represents many Southern homes/families during the post-Civil War Reconstruction Period. Park Staff, Volunteers and a contingent of Re.enactors filled the Farmstead with historical music and representations of farm people in their daily life,  A cooper worked on making wooden buckets and other wooden vessels.  The blacksmith demonstrated some of the trade aspects of his career with his forge, anvil and hammer. (From him I learned that "smithy" is not a nickname for a blacksmith, but the place in which he conducts his business).  And a unit of men with their horses picketed.  Good event.

I am told that despite the Gator/Canes game (which many told us they recorded) the attendance was better than expected.

Dudley has several special events throughout the year...Plough Day, Cane Day (sugar cane), Tractor Day, Quilt Day, Muster of the 7th Florida Infantry.  Look at the website to see.
