Thanksgiving weekend is the time for family and celebration.  At Chambers Farm in Ft. McCoy, Florida each year, this is no different.  The celebration is a pow wow; the family, members of various tribes who come together to celebrate their wonderful heritage.  It runs from Thursday to Sunday.  Lots of vendors.  Skins.  Beads. Drums. Gorgeous jewelry. A lot of Native American hand crafts and handicrafts.  Food Vendors with cold drinks and variations on fry bread and nachos/tacos.  Hot dogs are available, but we did not see many of these being purchased.

We attended on Saturday.  Saturday is the day that veterans and the American flag are especially honored.  We heard "The Star Spangled Banner" played on a flute.  Sent chills up and down the spine.  There is also a "flag song" played and danced to as an additional honoring.
Maggie

Molly

We visited with one of the vendors--The Spotted Pony--and discovered they have two Springer Spaniels--Maggie, who is black and white and is about twelve years old, and Molly, who is about a year and a half and is liver and white.  We have grown to be very conscious of Springers since Frisky came into our lives just over six years ago.  Molly is young a sleek; Frisky, not so much of either.  I mentioned to the owner that he had two of the dogs that I have had combined into one--one by name; the other by breed. Cool. We were next to them at Silver River.

Angel/Shadow Wolf

I watched several people doing bead work and talked to one lady for some time.  She is very creative and has some wonderful designs, which she says comes from her head.  I almost took pictures, but the camera did not want me too.  And, as it turned out, I feel that she really did not want them out there on a blog for others to copy.  I don't blame her at all.  Her designs are usually custom made, and she prefers to be able to guarantee that each is one of a kind.  And BEAUTIFUL! Her name is Angel or Shadow Wolf.  angelorwolf79@cfl.rr.com

I always like Huskies as well.  After all UCONN Huskies and all that!  I found one husky.  I missed its name.  But I also found a timber wolf on a leash who appeared to be very gentle.  His name was Dusty.

A presentation was made to the veterans at the VFW home in Ft. McCoy.  Then the Grand Entry.  Native American veterans first.  Followed by others within the tribal society.  After their entrance and dance, all other veterans (or their representatives--spouses, children, etc.) were invited to enter the circle.  Many danced their way in, but many just walked normally.  The whole thing was a splendid sight to see.
